Climate Action

Climate change is one of the greatest health threats facing humanity in the 21st century. As worldwide patterns of temperature, precipitation and weather events change, the delicate balance of climate and life is disrupted, with serious impacts on food and agriculture, water sources, and health. That makes the transition to energy sources like solar, wind and geothermal, combined with energy efficiency, an urgent need.

Promoting Clean, Renewable Energy

An energy system that is clean, renewable and efficient also offers immediate benefits to health. By ending end our dependence on fossil fuels, we will be able to enjoy cleaner air, water and land. This in turn will reduce the risks of leading causes of premature death:  cancers, respiratory disease, heart disease and stroke.

PSR WI/WEHN is working to assure a rapid transition to a healthy and climate-safe energy system.  We’re also working to be sure that transition is equitable: responsive to the needs of displaced workers as well as low-income, minority and frontline communities.

Health & Climate Change

PSR Wisconsin/Wisconsin Environmental Health Network educates health professionals about the health consequences of climate change and mobilizes them to respond. We work to 1) Provide information on climate-related health threats, 2) Offer resources on the harms to health from coal-fired power plants, coal ash and frac sand mining, 3) Promote the health-supportive value of clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and 4) engage health professionals in raising the “health voice” on climate- and health-related policies.
